| The perfect location to begin a number of stunning walks on the trails of the Alpujarra. In the capable hands of your walking guides Carole, Chris or David - who have lived and worked in the area for a number of years, you will follow trails which crisscross the Sierra Nevada slopes. The walking holiday week covers a variety of trails, including 5 days walking the trails, with a day off in the middle to relax or take the optional trip to The Alhambra. Our idylic spot with your cottage accomodation rests on the slopes of the Poqueira valley in the Alpujarra at 1,647 metres - over 5,000 feet which is higher than Ben Nevis. To the north is the mountain of Mulhacen, snowcapped for several months of the year, and the highest mountain in mainland Spain; whilst to the south on a clear day the Mediteranean glistens. The whitewashed villages of Capileira, Bubion and Pampaneira perch on the other side of the Poqueira valley. Wild flowers and butterflies and sometimes eagles will pose for your camera. We have lived high in the Sierra Nevada now since 2003, on the slopes of the mountain. Many of our guests have been walkers from frequent trailers to beginners. A number of them have said that they would like to improve their knowledge of the area with guided walks from our cortijo as a base. "Why don't you run guided walking holidays from here then, it's a brilliant location" they said. So that is what we decided to do in 2008 and our early weeks have been a great success!
