Bird Watching

The Alpujarra region abounds with bird life with the best viewing time between late March and early July though there are some interesting species to be seen at other times. Your holiday cottages are at one of the highest points of the Natural Park – at 1647 metres – higher than Ben Nevis and on the edge of the National Park

The Alpujarra forms a large region on the south side of the Sierra Nevada range. UNESCO has declared the Sierra Nevada a Biosphere Reserve.

The rich bird communities are the result of favourable habitats and closeness to North Africa.

The holiday cottage accommodation at Cortijo Los Nogales is an ideal centre for the region with many birds to be seen on or near to the cortijo.

Viewers would normally wish to bring their own equipment and clothing. In the event that you are unable to do please let us know your requirements.

Birds, which may be seen in the Alpujarra region, are shown in the table at the bottom of the page.
